Rest Nest

A Charity for Nurses by Interior Designers –

We are delighted to share with you a Taylor Howes charitable initiative that has been two years in the making – Rest Nest. Rest Nest is a charity for nurses by interior designers whereby we redesign nurses restrooms in hospitals to improve their working life.

Rest Nest began in September 2018, when Taylor Howes fully redesigned the nurses’ rest room on the Lilian Holland Gynaecology Ward in St Mary’s Hospital, London. In 2019 we partnered with the Imperial Trust to undertake our second Rest Nest room at Charing Cross Hospital due to be installed later this year.

Rest Nest is an initiative that aims to give back to nurses by physically improving the rest room facilities on the wards in which they work. There are some 698,237 registered nurses, midwives and nursing associates currently practicing in the UK (Source: Nursing & Midwifery Council) and our aim, as a future charity, is to systematically work with the charities within each hospital trust to transform the rest and break room facilities within the wards.

Our intention is to either match via fundraising the sum gifted by the trust’s charity, or where funds are limited, seek donations to gift pieces of furniture, products, specialist equipment or labour. We aim to develop a list of long-term partners in this, who will wish to match us in our drive to champion our nurses, acknowledge the relentless, tough job that they do in an ever-increasingly challenging environment and to give back to them.

The entire ethos of Rest Nest is to work in tandem with the NHS directive to improve wellbeing for its staff by saying “thank you” to the nursing staff in providing proper break rooms, allowing them to step away from the clinical, patient environment during their break and to relax and recharge.

We are looking for partners to roll this initiative out at a much larger scale in the wake of the COVID 19 pandemic to give thanks to the NHS nurses and the incredible work they have done for us. We are seeking partners to work with us on future projects by donating products for the rooms or by offering their interior design services.
