Money for Our Artists –

Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop has started ‘Money for Our Artists’, a GoFundMe Campaign to raise money for artists during this difficult time. The campaign offers an easy way to have a direct impact on a large number of artists as well as support their programmes for future artists benefit.

Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop is an exhibition and residency space in London. They support a diverse range of emerging and mid-career contemporary artists by providing them with space and time to develop their practice and bring it to the public. Through their residency programmes and exhibitions, they give artists, curators and theorists a platform to present work and share ideas as well as creating an environment for freethinking and exchange.

In the past few months it has become evident that now, more than ever, we need to support the smaller in size but not in talent, artisans, craftspeople and suppliers, who with little spotlight, smaller followings and with the closure of many of their exhibition spaces  face the potential to slip away during this difficult time. Nobody understands this better then artist Stacie McCormick, founder of Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop.

“Our artists are suffering from the uncertainties caused by COVID-19. Many have found themselves without the necessary work to support their practices. Exhibitions and sales have disappeared. And whilst many of them are applying for emergency funds from a variety of outlets or other great initiatives, the resources are limited. We have observed the most urgent need for our artists is money. The unusual circumstances have catalysed us to stand on our principles as a self supporting organisation. Our call to action is to provide needed funds directly to our artists as well as help support our space.” – Stacie McCormick.

In response to the pandemic Stacie, through Unit 1 Gallery |Workshop, has launched the “Money for Our Artists’ campaign in which you can support artists through donations on their GoFundMe page, or by purchasing art from their Workshop Foundation Editions–  a collection of works from the over 120 artists that have been involved in their exhibition and residency programmes to date. Member artists have donated works and it is from these works the gallery has developed the series of prints as a wonderful method to raise needed funds. For every £200 donated you get a choice of a Workshop Foundation Edition.
